The History of Green Pea Cookies

by The Green Pea Cookie Team January 23, 2017

Ever wondered why green pea cookies are round and green? Well -- the recipe actually began as a Chinese New Year festive cookie. And apparently, the first green pea cookies were made to resemble jade rings, in accordance with Chinese tradition. Jade is green and it is a treasure in the Chinese culture. It is believed that jade rings is a symbol of nobility, good luck and wealth. This is what a jade ring looks like:

And these are what some of the Chinese green pea cookies look like!

Our cookies used to be greener, too, but then we got rid of all the artificial food dyes. They're the first 100% ALL NATURAL green pea cookies on the market!

There's more to jade that's special besides its color. Its circular shape alone has meaning. In fact, the jade symbol represents a link between heaven and Earth, or eternity, since it has no beginning and no end.

Didn't a certain pea cookie once say we are all peaternal?? Thanks Grandma Pearl!
