How To Get Rid Of Bulky Trash and Pallets

by The Green Pea Cookie Team November 30, 2015

Trash. We don’t think much about it because all it takes is to wrap it up in a bag and dump it down the rubbish chute. It vanishes and as quickly as it slides down that bin, we forget its very existence. But what happens when you suddenly have trash that seem to never be able to fit down any rubbish chute?

Business owners will be all too familiar with the numerous boxes and crates that come in alongside supplies and inventory. Not to mention the pesky pallets that we wish would just turn into a raft and float off into the sea... here's what our storage locker looked like.

After struggling with our own unwanted wooden mail, we found some good options to getting an axe and hacking them away or starting a bonfire.

1. Recycle.

Haven’t we been taught the beauty of the 3 Rs? Since reducing doesn’t work without a big armed man with an axe and reusing is no longer feasible, recycling is the best way to go about it. Not only do you retain that satisfaction of watching the huge pile of unwanted bulky trash vanish before your eyes, you also get extra credit knowing that you’ve saved some trees from being felled.

Recology is a reliable and long time favorite of recycling: http://www.recology.com/ Accessible in locations all over California and in some parts of USA, give them a call and they will get back to you to schedule a pickup right at your doorstep.

2. On demand services.

Urgent? Instead of getting an Uber, now there’s even an Uber for trash! All you have to do is to snap a picture of your unwanted waste, send an SMS and patiently wait. Junkeroo provides same day pickup for trash anywhere in San Francisco. How’s that for living in the most technologically driven city of USA where everything is on demand?

3. Donate.

As the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! Post an ad, call someone up or simply wave it around on the streets and see who wants it. Hopefully you'll have more success than we did. And you never know, you might just make someone’s day.

4. Do it yourself.

Back in those days when we were stuck with black and white cellphones capable only of placing calls, sending text messages and playing pac man, everyone got rid of trash themselves. This is the most viable option for anyone who refuses to throw money down that same chute that the rubbish goes into. It’s easy really, all you need to do is get a large vehicle or a trolley and head down to the nearest dumpsite!

If you need a vehicle, U-Haul presents great options for short term rental at affordable prices. With a reliable GPS or Google Maps, you’ll soon find yourself zipping through traffic carrying a load of unwanted “passengers”.

5. If all else fails, join everyone else and take a risk leaving it on the side of the road. This is probably not the best option because someone else is going to have to deal with it. We've seen a ton of pallets lying around the city since we started looking for what to do with ours! (*Disclaimer: pallets do not belong to us.)
